JEE Main 2017 Eligibility Criteria is set by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). CBSE has issued the Eligibility Criteria of JEE Main 2017 including the requirements related to age, educational qualification, the total number of attempts etc. The candidates need to fulfil these eligibility conditions for admission through JEE Main 2017. All the candidates looking for the admission in the IITs, NITs and other engineering colleges, must meet JEE Main eligibility criteria.

About JEE Main 2017 Exam

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Board organises JEE Main exam. This exam is used for admissions in B.Tech programmes in IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. The exam is conducted online (computer based) and offline (pen and paper based). While filling the application form, the candidates have to specify the mode in which they want to appear in JEE Mains exam.

JEE Main 2017 Exam Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for JEE Main, candidates should check following eligibility conditions. JEE Main eligibility criteria has changed recently, so pay close attention to all the points mentioned below:

Qualification Criteria for JEE Main 2017

Candidates must have passed class 12 or equivalent exams in last two years. For example, for 2017 exam, only students appearing for class 12 or equivalent exams in 2017 and who appeared in 2016 and 2015 (not before 2015) are eligible for JEE exam 2017.

Age Criteria for JEE Main 2017

Age limit for JEE Main examination is 24 years, with cut off being October 1. For example, for general and OBC candidates appearing in 2017, a candidate must be born on or after October 1, 1992. For SC and ST category candidates, the same limit is relaxed by 5 years i.e. the candidate should be born on or after October 1, 1987.

Date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University will be considered only for appearing in the JEE exam. In addition to this, from this year onwards date of birth mentioned in Aadhar card will also be checked. However it is still not clear, in case of contradiction, which document will be considered.

Percentage Criteria for JEE Main 2017

Any candidate appearing for JEE Main must have passed class 12 board exam with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. In addition to this, for admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs & CFTIs, candidates need to score at least 75% in their class 12 board exams. The percentage for SC and ST candidates is relaxed by 10% i.e. 65%.

As per the latest notification from IITs, no board marks will be taken into account to calculate JEE Main score from 2017 onwards.

Number of Attempts for JEE Main 2017

Candidates can attempt JEE Main a maximum of three times in consecutive years. Therefore, candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2015 for the first time are also eligible for JEE Main 2017.

Additional Requirement of Aadhar Card for JEE Main 2017

As per the latest notification from IITs, all Indian citizen candidates should possess Aadhar card issued by UIDAI, a Government of India department. At the time of filling of JEE Main 2017 application form, the candidates will have to enter their Aadhar card number and other personal details like name, date of birth & gender. All these will be validated from the UIDAI’s data.

If there is mismatch or misrepresentation, the application form for JEE Main will be rejected. If your details in Aadhar card are not entered correctly, then you should get them rectified immediately.

Physical Fitness for JEE Main 2017

All the candidates who have qualified JEE Main exam would need to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner in a prescribed format. This form will be given to the JEE Main selected candidates after their selection and before admission counselling. The candidates will be admitted in their respective institutes only if they are found to be physically fit to pursue the course of study.

Additional Requirements for Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery Courses

Candidates opting for Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery Engineering courses being offered at ISM Dhanbad, IIT Kharagpur and IT-BHU should make sure that they do not have colour blindness. They will have to prove this through medical certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of admission counselling.

Female Candidates for Mining Courses

ISM Dhanbad does not allow female candidates in Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery. But there is no such restriction for same courses being offered at IIT Kharagpur and IT-BHU.
