JEE Main Exam Pattern

JEE Main Exam pattern indicates the number of questions from each topic and their difficulty level in the JEE Main exam. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main has two papers. Paper 1 is for the engineering aspirants and Paper 2 is for B.Arch, B.Planning and B.Des applicants.

JEE Main Exam Paper 1 Pattern

Paper 1 – Exam pattern of JEE Main exam Paper 1 for BE / B.Tech courses in various engineering colleges in India is mentioned below. Kindly note that this is expected pattern, based on last year’s pattern

  • Duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours (180 minutes)
  • The exam paper consists of 90 questions.
  • The question paper is divided in three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, each having 30 questions.
  • For each correct answer, candidate is given 4 marks.
  • For each wrong answer, candidate is given negative 1 mark i.e. 1 mark is deducted from his/ her score.
  • For unattempted question, no mark is deducted.
  • Each question has only one correct answer.

JEE Main Exam Paper 2 Pattern

Paper 2 – Exam pattern of JEE Main exam Paper 2 for B.Arch, B.Planning and B.Des courses in various engineering colleges in India is explained below. Kindly note that this is expected pattern, based on last year’s pattern. Sample papers of JEE main 2017

  • The exam paper consists of three parts – Part I, Part II and Part III.
  • Part I– Aptitude Test of 50 objective type questions. Each correct answer carries 4 marks.
  • Part II- Mathematics Test of 30 objective type questions. Each correct answer carries 4 marks.
  • Part III- 2 questions of total 70 marks. These questions need to be answered on a separate drawing sheet. Marks allotted for each question are written against the questions.

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced Exam pattern indicates the number of questions from each topic and their difficulty level in the JEE Advanced exam. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced has two papers. Jee advanced 2018 papers

JEE Advanced exam has two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Both exams of JEE Advanced are conducted on the same date. As per the last year (2016), Paper 1 will be conducted in first half of the day and Paper 2 in the second half. Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.

Both papers of JEE Advanced have a total of 186 marks each. Maximum marks to be scored in the exam is 372 marks.

Paper 1 & Paper 2 has 3 categories- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Paper 1 (as per the JEE Advanced 2016 exam paper) Each category has 3 sections

  • Section 1 – 10 MCQs. Four options and one correct answer.
  • Section 2 – 5 MCQs. Four options and one or more correct answer(s).
  • Section 3 – 5 questions and answers in single digit integer ranging from 0 to 9.

Paper 2 (as per the JEE Advanced 2016 exam paper) Each category has 3 sections,

  • Section 1 – 8 MCQs. Four options and one correct answer
  • Section 2 – 8 MCQs. Four options and one correct answer. These questions are paragraph type and include theory, practical aspects and data. Total four paragraphs and two questions from each paragraph.
  • Section 3 – 4 Matching List type questions.

Points to remember for JEE Advanced

  • Upper sheet of the answer booklet is Optical Response Sheet (ORS). It has two pages stuck together.
  • Candidates have to mark their answers in appropriate bubbles of each question on the front page. The impression is automatically recorded in the sheet below. That is why, alignment of the sheets should not disturbed.
  • Read the instructions carefully. Last year, answer alteration was not allowed.
  • Apply just enough pressure on the sheet to record your answer. Too much and too less pressure might create issues for you.
