NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national level medical entrance test regulated by the CBSE Board for students who wish to study any graduate medical course (MBBS/ BHMS), dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD / MS) in government or private medical colleges in India.NEET-UG (Undergraduate), for MBBS and BDS courses, will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is held for providing admissions in MBBS/BDS courses offered by all government and private medical colleges in India. It is one level of exam which  commences for once in a year in month of May.

From this year 2016, NEET exam has replaced AIPMT exam. All seats (MBBS/BDS) of any medical/dental college will be filled by the score of NEET examination only. As per the last order from Supreme Court, only NEET exam will be held for offering admission into MBBS/BDS courses in India from the year 2018.

Candidates who would want to take up this exam are advised to go through the eligible criteria before taking up the exam to ascertain their age and qualification as required by the authority.

  • Nationality: Candidates should be an Indian or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).
  • Age Limit:
    The minimum age limit is 17 years.
    The maximum age limit is 25 years for general candidates and 30 years for reserved categories.
  • Qualification: Students should have passed/appearing 12th or equivalent examination from any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology or any other elective subject with English.
  • Percentage Criteria: Students under general category should have minimum 50% marks in PCB group for and 45% (for general PH) and 40% (for SC/ST/OBC categories).

The syllabus is based on the Class 11th & Class 12th subjects, chapters & topics.

  • NEET Physics Syllabus

  1. Class XI: Physical world and measurement, Laws of Motion, Kinematics, Work, Energy and Power, Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body, Gravitation, Properties of Bulk Matter, Thermodynamics, Behaviour of Perfect Gas and Kinetic Theory, Oscillations and Waves.
  2. Class XII: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices.
  • NEET Chemistry Syllabus

  1. Class XI: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, s-Block Element (Alkali and Alkaline earth metals), Some p-Block Elements, Organic Chemistry-Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry.
  2. Class XII: Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.
  • NEET Biology Syllabus

  1. Class XI: Diversity in Living World, Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants, Cell Structure and Function, Plant Physiology, Human physiology.
  2. Class XII: Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology and Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Its Applications, Ecology and Environment.
